A Rainy Day in Antalya: Museums, Culture and Indoor Ideas

While planning an Antalya holiday, most programs are based on the open air, beach, Kaleiçi streets, ancient cities, waterfalls... Then one morning you open the curtain and it rains.

That doesn't mean the day will go to waste.

The General Directorate of Meteorology's Antalya climate normals show that wet days increase compared to summer, especially in the later months of autumn and winter. For example, on the average of October, there are 6,20 rainy days; in November there are 8,47; in December there are 12,40 wet days.

So it's not right to say, "Rain is a surprise in Antalya," the right thing is that there's a plan B in the program.

1. Atatürk House Museum

The Atatürk House and Museum in the center of Antalya is one of the easiest options for rainy day.

According to the official information of Antalya Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, the structure provides the memory of the mansion assigned to it during Atatürk's visits to Antalya. There are photographs, personal items and various exhibits about Antalya visits inside.

This is not a huge museum, so don't expect it to fill the whole day alone, but it can be easily combined with other closed stops in downtown.

2. Mevlevihane Museum

The Mevlevihane Museum around Kaleiçi/Yivli Minare is one of the ways to stay within historical texture without long city walks in the rain.

The official source states that the museum contains information boards, animations, clothing, and various artifacts related to Mevlevilik culture.

Also thanks to its location, a short city route can be established along with the Yivli Minaret environment.

3. Ethnography and city museums

The open hours of Antalya's museum options in the center can vary periodically.The 2026 season table of the Directorate General of Cultural Assets and Museums includes the Antalya Ethnography Museum, Mevlevihane Museum and Atatürk House.

4. Theatre or current culture program

If the rain is disrupting the outdoor schedule, it makes sense to look at the theatre and cultural events of that day.

I don't make a claim here that there is "certain activity every day." The schedule depends on the date.

5 You don't have to completely delete Kaleici

If there is light rain, it is possible to make a shorter route instead of completely cancelling Kaleici.

Hadrian's Gate, Fluted Minaret and closed museum stops can be put together, but take into account that stone streets can become slippery when wet.

If there is heavy rainfall or meteorological warning, it is more accurate to follow the current warnings of MGM rather than the "holiday, we still go out" approach.

Example half-day rain plan

Stop 1: Atatürk House Museum.

Stop 2: Short pass to Kaleici.

Stop 3: The Mevlevihane Museum and the Yivli Minaret surroundings.

Stop 4: Lunch break.

Stop 5: Current schedule of the day, such as the theatre/sergi/book fair.

The good thing about this plan is that if it rains, you can turn the program into open air instantly.

Mistake to avoid

It is easy to turn the whole of Antalya into a shopping mall on a rainy day, but you don't have to connect the whole day to shopping alone while there are culture and history options in the city center.

Another mistake is to consider the hours and events in old blog posts up to date.

My rule is simple: Check the official source on the same day if there is museum, theatre and event information.

Rain doesn't turn Antalya into a city of "nothing to do"; it just shifts the weight of the route from the beach to culture and city life.
