Does Higher GHz Always Mean Faster? Compare CPUs Properly
Do not rank the processor with a single clock speed or number of cores. Prepare a comparison table by separating the same task, generation, power and cooling conditions.

Selecting the large number by typing the GHz value next to the two processors simplifies the comparison more than necessary. The clock speed is an important measure; however, not every architecture, application and run condition is the same. First determine what job you want to speed up on the computer. With video export time, a game's behavior on the specific scene does not answer the same question.
What does GHz say, what doesn't?
In Intel's statement The clock speed refers to the cycles that the processor performs per second. The number of cycles a command is completed in and the work per cycle can change, so sorting different generations and architectures over the frequency alone does not create an accurate performance table.
In your own comparison, save the full name of the model, its generation, the application you are using, and what the test measures. It is not enough detail to write only 'i7' or 'Ryzen 7' in a header; under the same family name, different classes of periods and power can be found.
The number of cores also does not elect winners alone
Intel's processor selection guideIt recommends not putting multi-core workloads in the same kefe as the game. The practical result from this is to look at measurements in your own application. The high score on a program you don't use may not reduce your waiting time to the same extent.
For example, the same upgrade priority is not established for a person who processes long videos with someone doing simple text and web work alone. These examples are not a specific processor recommendation. It shows how easy it is to open a product table without writing the target.
Put the test conditions side by side
See also what changes outside the processor in a comparison file: memory, video card, resolution, power setting and cooling conditions. Even if the laptop is in the outlet or in different power mode, it changes the frame of the experiment. Separate the result from the long workload with short peak performance.
If you are comparing the export of the same file, the input file and export settings must be the same. Perform multiple trials, note the unusual result, and check the load on the background during operations. This is not a home-type trial laboratory test; it produces comparable observation for your own use.
Calculate the entire upgrade
Processor change may require compatibility with other components. Do not budget at the price of the processor alone without verifying motherboard, memory and coolant support from manufacturer documentation. Also investigate whether the bottleneck is on the storage or memory side.
This guide does not instruct speed overshooting or voltage switching. Good processor selection is not about finding the largest number on the label; the task you need is to select the system that completes it under the appropriate conditions and with acceptable total cost.
