You prepare a Reels cover on the computer. The title is right in the middle, a hundred beautiful places, the design is clean. When you upload it to Instagram, you see: half of the title is lost in the profile, a hundred are cut elsewhere.

This is often more than a design error. showing the same image in different frames on different surfaces issue.

Canva's Instagram size guide measures 1080 ⁇ 1080 for square visual, 1080 ⁇ 1350 for vertical feed visual, and 1080 ⁇ 1920 for Stories. Canva Design School also suggests that carousel content can be cropped differently on mobile and profile grid, so the design should be previewed in both feed and profile view.

First issue: 4:5 and 9:16 are not the same thing.

The common working area for vertical post in Feed is 1080 ⁇ 1350, i.e. 4:5 ratio.

Reels and Story designs are mostly 1080 ⁇ 1920, i.e. 9:16.

The problem begins when you prepare an image in 9:16 and expect it to look identical everywhere. A profile grid or another preview surface may use a narrower or different crop.

Therefore, the critical elements of the design are not only relative to the edges of the canvas, According to a secure central area must be placed.

Why does Safe Zone work?

Safe zone should not be considered an official "single pixel standard" but its logic is simple:

  • Do not stick to the main header edges.
  • Not in areas where the main visual element, such as face/product, is likely to crop.
  • Do not place critical information in areas where the platform interface can be turned off at the bottom and top.
  • Check the profile/grid preview as well.

So on our site Instagram Safe Zone We have prepared the tool. You can open your image in the browser and check it on the guide fields. It does not load on the visual server; it stays inside the browser.

The mistake I see most often on the Reels cover

Moving the headgear too high or down to be aesthetic.

It may look nice while watching fullscreen. But when it shrinks or trims on the grid, the title can be demeaning.

The second error: very small text.

Since the Reels cover will also be seen as a small card in the profile, the design should be readable not only when opened at 1080 pixel width, but also in small preview.

Why is 1080 ⁇ 1350 strong in feed visual?

The vertical 4:5 format covers more screen space than the square format in mobile feed. Canva's current guide also uses the 1080 ⁇ 1350 measure for the Instagram vertical feed sample.

This does not mean that "algorithm recommends 4:5 more precisely" meaning that you use more vertical space in terms of visual field.

Before starting the design Social Media Visual Dimensions The easiest way to check the target format from the tool.

Do not change the rate later when preparing Carousel

The first page of a carousel, 4:5, can break the alignment by preparing others at different rates or forcing the whole series to another rate after the design is completed.

It is important to initially select a single format if you are using graphic lines, large titles and common backgrounds that go from page to page.

Practical order in cover design

When I'm making a Reels cover, I use the following:

  1. First identify the target surface: Reels/Story or feed?
  2. Open the canvas at the right rate.
  3. Place the image of the main face/product in the central safe area.
  4. Remove the header from the outer edges.
  5. Test in small thumbnail view.
  6. Preview the profile grid crop.
  7. Then fine-tune the aesthetic.

So it's not "good design ⁇ then make it up to Instagram"; first the distribution surface ⁇ then the design.

Why can the design still be trimmed?

Platforms can change their interface. Because of different devices, profile views, and new UI updates, the same file may look different in different contexts.

So this isn't just a once-learned and forgotten gauge table that needs to be checked in the actual preview before publishing the design.

If you are also wondering how many seconds your Reels text will fit with the image Reels Time Calculator You can test the speech text with approximately.
